Gods

There are gods walking among us.

And only other gods know who they are.

They shamble about with aching bowed heads.

With glassy, bloodshot eyes staring in to the afar.

There are gods walking among us.

Beings who think in things higher than words.

They shift through crowds amongst the mortal people

A shepherd mixing in with their herd.

There are gods walking among us.

And they share glances only they can behold.

And when they speak their words are buried.

That’s how you know that they communicate in gold.

There are gods walking among us.

Heads aching, pounding with infinite light.

They sit in rooms screaming out for salvation.

Anything to take them out this godly fight.

There are gods walking among us.

With knowing smirks and glittering sad eyes.

The words they speak float above, above, above.

They connect through their unanswered whys.

There are gods walking among us.

Oh ye mortals, rejoice in thy exclusion.

The earthly gods behold pain unheard of.

Eternally we hear our cries in unison.

There are gods walking among us.

And we’re not what you assume we’d be.

We are muted, shut off, scuffling beings.

Weighed down by what we are cursed to see.
